02:50:12<bosky101>please leave in your comments for http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=652202 - a library launched by my startup today
02:50:56<bosky101><a href="http://onhover.hover.in/hoverlet/hover.in/relatedyoutube/election"> election videos</a> will therefore render youtube videos when you hover over the link
02:51:24<bosky101>available events are onhover and onclick ...its essentially using the URI as the API to render contextual apps
02:52:03<snail>bosky101: the London example returns a pub in Turkey?
02:52:29<snail>bosky101: seems pretty slow to me, but then I'm on the end of a long pipe
02:52:50<PovAddict>ACTION hates "hoverlets", disabled snap.com at the /etc/hosts level
02:52:51<bosky101>well that's the app level - depends on who made the app : ) you can build the logic of what shud appear . i expose the hovered word, the url where it was hovered, etc
02:53:38<snail>ACTION finds them so slow they never appear anyway
02:53:41<bosky101>i hate snap too.. because they show ads. but what if you can build the logic.... it could be a dictionary , a map , a stock quote..etc
02:53:58<PovAddict>I don't want anything, relevant or not, to pop out of the text when I'm moving the mouse
02:53:59<bosky101>snail, try going over them twice... still got some optimizing/tweaks to recover.
02:54:17<snail>bosky101: them not appearing is a good thing, not a bad
02:54:45<bosky101>it could be onclick as well... think of an oauth login where you dont have to leave the page
02:54:52<bosky101>the first few for eg: are onclick
02:55:31<bosky101>or a currency calculator... or rss reader or.... ???
02:55:44<snail>bosky101: auth where you don't have to leave the page? sounds like a good idea security wise... NOT
02:55:59<PovAddict>fix your caching; they take long to load even though I just looked at it
02:56:23<PovAddict>once I hover once, and the hoverlet loads, second time should take a millisecond to load; but it takes a whole second or so (with hover window blank)
02:56:48<bosky101>PovAddict, golly... the loading img takes time to load...ha ha
02:57:11<PovAddict>no, I don't see the loading image the second time
02:57:20<bosky101>which hoverlet is it?
02:57:27<PovAddict>it pops a blank window, then a second later the whole content appears
02:57:33<PovAddict>all three in demo 2
02:58:16<PovAddict>I just tried something from demo 4 I hadn't loaded before
02:58:24<PovAddict>indeed, it took a second for the spinny loading image to appear!
02:58:51<PovAddict>sometimes takes longer from window opened to loading image than from loading image to content
02:59:14<PovAddict>loading image = spinning thing
02:59:22<bosky101>well incase of maps, 3rd party webservices - they take their own time
02:59:56<bosky101>and the spinning thing remains until the hoverlet inside has completed its onload
03:00:10<PovAddict>hmm I don't think you understood what I meant
03:00:18<PovAddict>I move mouse over link, window pops up, blank
03:00:25<PovAddict>two seconds later, the spinning thing appears
03:00:48<PovAddict>one second later, the list of youtube videos appear
03:01:00<PovAddict>I move mouse away
03:01:05<PovAddict>hover again on same link
03:01:17<PovAddict>and, again, the window is blank for two seconds, then youtube video list appears instantly (since it's cached)
03:01:33<PovAddict>you can't possibly blame that on 3rd party web services :)
03:01:44<PovAddict>unless you're loading the spinning image from their sites
03:01:56<bosky101>brb
03:03:17<bosky101>alright, can u refresh and try now
03:06:14<bosky101>im tryign to figure out if rather than using href, would it be more semantically correct using about or a qurie ,etc
03:06:46<bosky101>(right now an anchor element with the URI in href or title works)
03:07:12<PovAddict>about?
03:08:50<bosky101>with rdfa, ive seen the about atrribute used to specify some kind of a resource. would there be a vocab to mention this sort of content+event metadata
03:09:04<PovAddict>is there any service that lets me upload videos (like youtube) but only keeps them temporarily and doesn't need account creation (like pastebin/imagebin)?
03:09:47<bosky101>perhaps posterous
03:21:02<PovAddict>bosky101: http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=15h261s&s=5
03:21:05<PovAddict>see all the blank time?
03:21:29<bosky101>PovAddict, wow appreciate the effor ..let me have a look at it
03:21:53<PovAddict>bosky101: taking the video was fast, compressing the damned 30MB thing so that it took a reasonable amount of time to upload wasn't :)
03:22:19<PovAddict>ACTION used ffmpeg built from source
03:22:23<bosky101>and i see more loading images while buffering the video...ha ha
03:22:46<PovAddict>lol that's not it :)
03:22:55<PovAddict>I think that video has no spinny loading image at all
03:23:10<PovAddict>all three hoverlets were already cached
03:23:53<PovAddict>btw, I used a camera because I don't have any decent video capture software, and *any* video capture could have affected loading speed anyway
03:25:32<PovAddict>(most I tried give me 5fps or so)
